Wood cutting, marking and engraving
CO2 laser processing for wood from identification purposes to decorative finishes
In contrast to traditional woodworking methods, CO₂ laser cutting is remarkably fast and precise, allowing complex shapes to be cut out of wood with ease. Laser processing minimizes waste, produces no sawdust, and eliminates the problems caused by tool wear and breakage, thereby streamlining the overall production process.
Beyond traditional materials, lasers can efficiently mark and precisely engrave wood, consistently producing exceptionally high-quality results. These applications can range from essential identification purposes to purely decorative finishes. The versatility of laser cutting technology ensures excellent outcomes across various wood types and designs.
Our CO2 lasers cut wood
Laser cutting wood
A CO2 laser is the perfect woodworking tool. It cuts quickly and precisely, allowing even intricate shapes to be produced with ease. Waste is minimized, no sawdust is generated, and tool wear is eliminated. Our lasers are built for cutting wood of all different types, including natural hardwoods and softwoods, plywood, MDF, laminates and fiberboard.
Our CO2 lasers are most used in die board production for a consistent and controllable kerf width, and for numerous other applications, including furniture, flooring, toys, sports equipment and jigsaw puzzles.

Our CO2 lasers cut slots in wooden die boards to hold metal blades
Die board cutting
Die cutting is a quick and low-cost way of cutting printed items into identical shapes multiple times. A pattern printed on paper or card is placed in a machine loaded with a custom-made ‘die’ – a block of wood with a metal blade, bent and folded into the desired shape. When the machine presses the printed sheet and the die together, it cuts out the shape of the blade into the material.
Die boards are made from thick, high-quality plywood, typically birch or maple, chosen for their strength, flatness and durability, and come in many different thicknesses. CO2 lasers are ideal for cutting wood die boards to hold the metal blades for the following reasons:
- The process is precise and flexible, so designs and dimensions can be changed on the fly.
- Accurate control of the cut width allows for blades of different sizes, and the natural taper of the cut helps to grip the blades tightly.
- A high-quality beam and good alignment avoid any directionality of the cut.
- Speeds are generally scalable with laser power.

Laser marking and engraving wood
Our CO2 lasers can be used to mark and engrave on all kinds of wood, from simple text and logos to high-quality and detailed artwork. The laser induces a color change in the wood, producing clear marks with good contrast. Deep engraving can also be achieved if desired, although this process is naturally more time-consuming.
Laser engraving is often seen on wooden toys, tool handles, ice cream sticks, wine corks, wooden pallets and more. Depending on the application, marks may be for information and traceability purposes, or purely decorative.
