Overcoming obsolescence: Luxinar partners with BVM to future-proof MULTISCAN® laser marking systems

Luxinar has partnered with embedded computing specialist BVM to develop a bespoke PC platform for our MULTISCAN® CO₂ laser marking systems, improving reliability, performance and long-term scalability.

MULTISCAN® systems are used in a wide range of industrial applications, including high-speed bottle and label marking and product traceability. When a key Single Board Computer (SBC) reached end-of-life, Luxinar needed a replacement solution that would maintain compatibility with its proprietary measurement and I/O cards while fitting within strict space constraints.

Working closely together, Luxinar and BVM developed a custom solution based on a DFI COM Express® module and a custom carrier board. The design provides full backwards compatibility without additional adaptors, while creating a simpler path for future hardware upgrades.

The new platform has improved system stability and reliability in the field and provides a robust foundation for ongoing product development.

Billy Richards, Technology Stream Manager at Luxinar, said: “Replacing our obsolete SBC while maintaining compatibility with our proprietary technology was a significant challenge. BVM quickly understood our requirements and worked collaboratively with our team to deliver a solution that met all our technical needs. The result is a more stable, future-proof platform that has performed reliably since deployment and gives us confidence for future product development without being held back by hardware obsolescence.”

The project highlights the value of close engineering collaboration in overcoming complex technical challenges and extending product lifecycles.
