About Louise May
Louise May is Senior Applications Engineer at Luxinar, where she has spent almost 20 years helping customers develop and optimize laser-based manufacturing processes. With extensive experience in CO₂ laser technology, she works closely with customers across industry sectors including automotive, packaging, textiles, electronics, medical devices, and advanced materials processing to identify effective, high-performance laser solutions.
Prior to joining Luxinar, Louise worked as a Laser Systems Engineer at Linx Xymark and held research positions within the University of Hull’s Department of Applied Physics and Department of Engineering. She studied at the University of Hull, where she developed a strong foundation in physics and engineering. She was awarded a first-class honours degree in Applied Physics in 1994, followed by a PhD entitled “Optical studies of wide bandgap semiconductor epilayers and quantum well structures” in 1998.
An accomplished technical author and industry expert, Louise regularly contributes articles and thought leadership on laser processing technologies and applications. Her work focuses on helping manufacturers improve productivity, precision, and process reliability through innovative laser solutions.
